From Rock Ballads to Marathon Miles: Dr. Guy Lodico Runs for Tisch MSRCNY

When Dr. Guy A. Lodico, Ph.D., sets his mind to something, he gives it everything he’s got—whether that’s performing classic rock ballads on the Long Island music circuit, volunteering with guide dogs, or, most recently, training for his first-ever marathon.

This November, the musician, educator, and published researcher and author will run the 2025 TCS New York City Marathon as part of Team Tisch MS, raising awareness and funds for the Tisch Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York.

Dr. Lodico’s running story began just three years ago, almost by accident. “I set a goal to walk around the lake,” he recalls. “After finishing, I learned it was six and a half miles—and I was shocked. From there, I started picking up the pace: first a trot, then a jog, and eventually, a run.”

His first race took place at Sunken Meadow Park, where he ran in construction boots, pants, and his father’s Korean War jacket as a tribute to his dad and veterans. That meaningful beginning led to nearly 100 races since, and he’s now a regular age-group podium finisher in the 60–64 division.

A proud member of the Hamlet Running Club, Dr. Lodico credits his ongoing growth as an athlete to community support, his wife Lois’ encouragement, and having a strong “why”.

“I’ve personally observed the efficacy of Tisch MSRCNY’s groundbreaking research and treatment facilities,” says Dr. Lodico, who has attended the Center’s annual conferences led by Dr. Saud A. Sadiq. “The key to potentially curing multiple sclerosis is to identify its cause—and that’s exactly what Tisch MSRCNY is tirelessly working toward.”

When not out training, he performs weekly at The Stone Goat Restaurant & Brewery in Saint James, and Harbor Mist Restaurant in Cold Spring Harbor. He also plays gigs at Hidden harbor (Bayville), Habor Mist Restaurant (Cold Spring) and Flowerfield Caterers (Saint James).

Throughout October, he is generously donating his performance tips to our NYC Marathon fundraising goal. “Together,” he says, “we can help accelerate the pace of the groundbreaking research at Tisch MSRCNY.”

Join us in celebrating Dr. Lodico’s journey by cheering him on during training, stopping by a local performance, or donating directly to his campaign here.

Thank you, Guy, for your dedication to a cause that inspires us all: finding the cause and the cure for multiple sclerosis.
