Principal Investigator/Research Scientist

The Tisch Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York (Tisch MSRCNY) has an exciting career opportunity for a principal investigator position at the research associate or assistant research scientist level, depending on experience.

We are looking for a passionate scientist to lead innovative research projects in MS with focus including, but not limited to, the following areas:

  • Immunology/Neuroimmunology of MS with emphasis on B-cells or innate immune responses.
  • Experimental animal models of demyelinating disease and neurodegeneration to investigate the mechanisms of disease progression in MS.

Qualifications:

  • Robust publication record demonstrating research excellence.

At Tisch MSRCNY, under the leadership of Dr. Saud A. Sadiq, MD, FAAN, we are dedicated to unraveling the causes of and finding a cure for multiple sclerosis. Our interdisciplinary approach fosters collaboration between scientists and clinicians, enhancing the advancement of clinical studies. Current research focuses include:

  • Viral etiology of MS, particularly Epstein-Barr Virus (EBV) and SARS-CoV-2 impacts.
  • Mechanisms of disease progression using innovative experimental models.
  • Strategies for repair and regeneration, including stem cell applications.
  • Biomarker discovery and validation.
  • Translational research trials.

Research Assistant - Start June/July 2025

The Tisch Multiple Sclerosis Research Center of New York (Tisch MSRCNY) is seeking motivated and talented individuals to join our team as a Research Assistant.

Start June/July 2025

Five openings are available beginning in the summer of 2025. This position offers a unique opportunity for recent graduates interested in pursuing a career in biomedical research. Ideal candidates are individuals who have completed their undergraduate studies and are looking for a valuable research experience for 2 years before entering graduate or medical school. Research Assistants will work closely with principal investigators in a collaborative, dynamic, and cutting-edge research environment.

Position Overview

As a Research Assistant, you will engage in a variety of research activities, including both hands-on laboratory work and data analysis. You will contribute to ongoing studies aimed at understanding and treating multiple sclerosis (MS), working under the direct supervision of experienced researchers.

Key Responsibilities
  • Laboratory Techniques: Perform a range of molecular and cellular biology techniques including PCR, western blotting, ELISAs, flow cytometry, and aseptic cell culture.
  • Animal Models: Conduct project-specific work with rodent models, including surgeries, behavioral assessments, tissue processing, and histology.
  • Human Sample Handling: Process and bank human biological samples for ongoing studies.
  • Data Management: Document experimental methods, collect and analyze data, and prepare detailed reports.
  • Literature Review: Conduct literature searches, summarize findings, and present relevant articles during lab meetings.
  • Collaboration & Networking: Participate in weekly lab meetings, journal clubs, and contribute to international research conferences.
  • General Lab Maintenance: Assist with general lab tasks such as inventory management, equipment upkeep, and reagent preparation.
Qualifications
  • Education: Bachelor’s degree in biological sciences (or closely related field). Priority will be given to candidates graduating in December 2024 and May 2025.
  • Experience: Previous laboratory or clinical research experience is required.
  • Commitment: Must be available for a full-time, 2-year commitment.
  • Skills: Strong oral and written communication skills; ability to work effectively both independently and as part of a team.
